Omar Grant is an American music executive who was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Grant, who made his name as A&R early on, is currently the Co-President of Roc Nation Records. After graduating from Adelphi University, he took his first job as assistant tour manager working for Destiny’s Child, and then as tour manager for each of the three members individually including Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Beyonce.
Following his role as a tour manager, Grant worked as an A&R for EMI Group Limited and Epic Records before joining Roc Nation in 2011. In 2013, Grant signed producer/artist, DJ Mustard, to Roc Nation for management and as a recording artist on the label. Mustard would then release his debut album, 10 Summers, followed by his sophomore album, Cold Summer with Roc Nation. Cold Summer (with the help of Grant) would feature the likes of YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Nipsey Hussle, Nicki Minaj, Jeremih, Young Thug, Rick Ross, John Legend and more.
Grant also served as A&R on Rihanna’s first #1 debut album, Unapologetic. The album has amassed more than 4 million album equivalent units to date. Grant would go on to work on Rihanna’s eighth studio album, Anti, in which he played a significant role finding and developing the songs. The album was released on January 28, 2016 and has since earned 5 million equivalent album units to date.
Grant has also worked with and/or introduced many other notable artists like Jay-Z, Big Sean, Shakira, David Guetta, Snoh Aalegra, Willow, Jaden Smith, Jay Electronica, Vic Mensa, and Buju Banton.
