Brisbane composer Joff Bush has been at the centre of the rise of one of Australian television’s biggest success stories of recent years, Bluey.
The two-time Logie winning children’s show has become a beloved international entity as well, with the stories about the tight-knit cartoon family of Australian heelers, centred around a six year old Blue Heeler puppy, having equal impact on adults as it has on its original demographic: children.
A key part of Bluey’s success is in the memorable nature of the music. Since the show’s original debut, Bush has produced Bluey’s two official soundtrack albums, 2021’s Bluey: The Album (an ARIA #1 hit) and 2023’s Dance Mode! – the latter of which peaked at #1 on Billboard’s US Kid Albums Chart.
Bush talks about the success of a show like Bluey, and the role original compositions play in cementing it in the cultural zeitgeist.
